Mais, tous les Australiens ne célèbrent pas cet événement qui a donné lieu à la colonisation de tout le continent et au vol de la terre des Aborigènes. Cette colonisation violente s'est accompagnée du massacre de nombreux Aborigènes et de la perte de leur mode de vie traditionnel ainsi que d'une grande partie de leur culture, croyances et savoirs.
But not all Australians celebrate that event which gave rise to the colonization of the entire continent and the theft of Aboriginal lands. This violent colonization led to the massacre of many Aborigines and the loss of their traditional way of life and a considerable amount of their culture, beliefs and knowledge.
Les Aborigènes sont à l'heure actuelle toujours très marginalisés et leur condition sociale et économique est largement inférieure au reste de la population australienne.
Ils sont très souvent 'oubliés' ou mis à l'écart à l'occasion d'Australia Day et organisent leurs propres célébrations afin de montrer qu'ils n'ont pas disparu mais qu'ils ont survécu.
Nowadays, the Aborigines are still very marginalized and their social and economic condition is far more inferior to the rest of the Australian population. They are often forgotten for Australia Day and they organize their own celebrations to show that they have not died out but have survived.
