NAIDOC, the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, has its origins in the 1920s with the emergence of Aboriginal groups which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of treatment of Aborigines.

J'ai assisté à la journée d'ouverture des célébrations et malheureusement, il n'y avait pratiquement que des Aborigènes. Le reste de la société australienne semble ne pas vouloir s'impliquer. Les Aborigènes sont aisément critiqués dès que l'occasion se présente mais ils sont complètement ignorés lorsqu'ils essaient de s'engager positivement pour faire changer les choses.I attended the opening celebrations and unfortunately, there were almost only Aboriginal people. The wider Australian society does not seem to be willing to get involved. Many Australians easily blame them on any occasion but also ignore them as easily when they act to make things change.
